Marangu Route Overview

The Marangu Route, known as the ‘Coca-Cola Route,’ is one of the most popular and oldest paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is widely favored for being the easiest and shortest route, thanks to its gradual incline and lack of technical climbing requirements. Many hikers choose Marangu for a less demanding climb, though it is not as scenic as other routes on the mountain.

What sets the Marangu Route apart is its hut accommodations, the only route on Kilimanjaro to offer this feature. Trekkers can stay at Mandara Hut, Kibo Hut, or Horombo Hut, with a total of 240 bunk beds available. During peak season, these huts can fill up quickly, so advance booking is essential. The route is usually completed in five days, though an extra day for acclimatization is highly recommended to improve summit success.
